Andrew grew up in Colfax, California, and after college moved to Grass Valley, Andrew developed a love for construction by building houses during the summers of high school and college. Shortly after college, Andrew started a lighting design and supply company in the Silicon Valley. Following this business venture, Andrew took on several different construction opportunities. He worked in heavy equipment building cell towers around California, and then developed the special projects division of a statewide Electrical Contractor - making it the largest outdoor lighting kilowatt reduction company in the state. In 2018 Andrew partnered with a childhood friend and started a construction company, over the next few years Andrew grew his role into the Chief Business Officer and is the license holder for the company’s 45 state licenses. Within the company, Andrew oversees all aspects of company development, negotiations, estimating, and field operations. Because of his knowledge of the commercial construction industry and business-to-business interaction, the size of the construction company has grown exponentially every year since Andrew became an owner. In 2019 Andrew and his business partner started Brody International, a non-profit construction management company working exclusively for other non-profits and has managed projects in 8 countries and across 5 continents. In addition to the construction company and non-profit, in 2023 Andrew started a small development company working on developing triple-net assets with established partners. With a passion for working with people and deep love of the trades, Andrew is proud to be an owner of and a partner to the people that make these companies successful. Andrew was elected to the NJUHSD Board in 2024 and has a passion for promoting the Trades and the CTE program but also helping kids excel at whatever their passions are. Andrew will tirelessly be working on long term fiscal viability and planning, empowering teachers to create attractive and long term employment and expanding the CTE program for more access and more offerings. Andrew and his wife Casey currently have 3 children, Cassidy, a 7- year-old who wants to be a professional skier, Marko, a 16-year-old exchange student from Germany who is a Jr. at NU, and Luke, their adopted son, who lives in Grass Valley, married to Jackie and just welcomed their first child Walker Dunn.

Ken JohnsonBoard Vice Presidentemail: kjohnson@njuhsd.comTerm Ends: December 2026 |
Ken Johnson and his wife Carolyn are both retired public school classroom teachers. Ken taught history to junior high and high school students for 38 years. Carolyn taught elementary school for 31 years. They have six children together and three grandchildren. They enjoy traveling, hiking, playing golf, bocce, and pickleball.
Currently, Ken also serves on the Board of Directors for California’s Valued Trust which provides health care to over half of California’s classroom teachers and their families.
Ken served six years on the State SARB. SARB is the Student Attendance and Review Board. SARB makes recommendations to the legislature to improve student attendance and discipline for all of California’s students. As the only classroom teacher on State SARB, Ken represented all of California’s 325,000 classroom teachers.
Ken believes public schools should support several paths for student success after graduation including vocational education as well as college readiness. He is a big proponent of CTE(Career and Technical Education) because we all have different talents and types of intelligence.
Ken believes sorting through differences of opinion is always difficult, but we have a responsibility to the students we serve to do what needs to be done to provide them with a quality public school education.
