Workability

Workability

WorkAbility I (WA1) and the Department of Rehabilitation Transition Partnership Program (DOR/TPP) provide students with IEPs opportunities to explore careers, develop employment skills, and prepare for life after high school. WorkAbility I serves students ages 14–22 with an IEP  and may provide eligible students with up to 30 hours of paid work internship experience. DOR/TPP serves students ages 16 and older with an IEP and provides more in-depth transition services, including job exploration counseling, post-secondary counseling, workplace readiness training, self-advocacy instruction, and work-based learning experiences.

Recruitment and Referral Process: Students learn about these programs through Transition Team presentations (2 presentations to all students 2x/year), classroom activities, FLEX sessions, and referrals from case managers. Students or staff members can express interest and refer a student to the Transition Team.

The NJUHSD Transition Team Procedural Handbook is a resource for staff that explains the transition services available to students, program eligibility, referral procedures, work internship and work experience requirements, timelines, staff responsibilities, and the processes used to connect students with Transition Team services. The handbook is designed to help staff understand how to refer students and access the supports available through WorkAbility I and DOR/TPP.

NJUHSD Transition Team Procedures and Services Handbook (2026–2027): Please refer to the linked handbook for complete program procedures and information.
