Ideas for Saving Energy in the Classroom

Lighting
  1. Use natural lighting instead of electric lighting.
  2. Turn off lighting if leaving the room for more than ten minutes.
  3. Turn off lights at the end of the workday, on weekends and during vacation periods.
 
Heating, Air Conditioning, Ventilation (HVAC)
  1. Set thermostats at 68º for heating and 78º for cooling.
  2. Remove airflow obstructions around thermostats and air supply/return registers.
  3. Turn off HVAC systems at the end of the workday, on weekends and during vacation periods.
 
Office Equipment and Appliances
  1. Turn off computers, monitors, printers and copiers at the end of the workday, on weekends and during vacation periods.
  2. Reduce or eliminate personal residential appliances in the classroom.
 
Vacation Periods
  1. Unplug all personal appliances, battery chargers, televisions and video equipment.
  2. Turn off all lighting when checking out of the room.
