These scholarships/contests require their own application/form, have varied criteria/deadlines & are independent of District Scholarship Application.

The scholarships below consist of various scholarships which are and will be available throughout the year.  Some reflect last year's applications and are here for your information so you will be aware of their existence.  Please check back for this year's application (indicated by 2018-2019).

You may need a family member's MILITARY RECORDS to qualify for a scholarship.  If you don't have this information, you may request it.  This could take time so do it now

FOUR:  American Legion LOCAL UNIT 130 Frank Gallino Uniot 130 Scholarships:  Student Applicants do NOT need to be from military parents or grandparents.  If students will at the Local Unit level, they are passed onto the District level and then only one is passed onto the Department of CA level.
 
 
  • American Legion Auxiliary Frank Gallino Unit 130 Past Presidents' Parley Nurses Scholarship $500:  Must be planning on pursuing nursing at a California college open to any students with or without military affiliation for our local unit scholarship.  (Disregard the language requiring military affiliation, if not applicable).  Use Dept of CA form @ www.calegionaux.org/past_presidents_parley.htm  and  Turn into Kimala DeSena by Febrary 27, 2019 
 
Auburn Aviation Association Student Pilot Scholarship 2017-2018
Auburn Aviation Association is offering 2 $2,500 Scholarships to students in Auburn and the surrounding area to expose them to general aviation. Must be 16 by March 1.  Deadline extended to April 7, 2018  (Waiting for update)

Beale Officers' Spouses Club Scholarship 2017-201
Must be a dependent of: an active duty or reserve military member (officer or enlisted) assigned to Beale, a retired U. S. military member residing in Yuba/Sutter/Nevada/Placer/or Butte County, or a deceased U. S. military member. Due March 30, 2019 (waiting for update)

Bean Jr., William C. Memorial Scholarship 2018-2019
Open to Bear River high school seniors who exemplify characteristics and ideals of scholarship, athletic achievement, leadership, service to community, and caring for others. Submit completed application and confidential report from a staff person to Kimala DeSena by placing it in her mailbox in the front office at Bear River by due date. Due May 1, 2019

Blood Source Scholarship 2016 2017  
For seniors who worked a blood drive their senior year.  Blood Source is excited to have revamped their scholarship process to allow students to receive upwards of $2,500 and they will no longer limit recipients to one per school.  In the meantime, talk to your school's activities director for more info.  TBD for 2018-19 waiting for update

Caltrans Arun Sudhakar Memorial Scholarship 
Open to graduating high school seniors who are sons or daughters of Caltrans employees. Must be pursuing a degree in engineering, architecture or urban studies.  
Caltrans District 3 Transportation Scholarship  
For high school graduating seniors pursuing a career in transportation requiring college instruction or vocational training. Must have been involved in community or school extracurricular activities and have financial need.  Open to students residing in Butte, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, and Yuba Counties.  
Caltrans Division of Engineering Services, Engineering/ Architectural Scholarship:  Open to high school seniors intending to enroll in engineering or architectural curriculum at a California Community College or State College or University.  Must intend on a career in transportation.  
Caltrans James E Roberts Engineering Scholarship 
Open to graduating high school seniors planning on majoring in civil engineering and a career in transportation. Due June 1, 2019

Caltrans Dekema Scholarship ($1,000)  Next scholarship available April 1, 2019.  Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements: be a U.S. Citizen, permanent resident, or documented international student; be a high school senior in California or an undergraduate or graduate student from a California state accredited college; have a GPA of 2.5 or higher; pursue or plan to pursue a career in transportation, including, but not limited to: Administration, Construction Management, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Finance, Geography, Information Technology, Public Affairs or Public Policy, City, Regional, or Urban Planning.  Contact: Carmen Sandoval at carmen.sandoval@dot.ca.gov for more information.

Caltrans Children of Fallen Workers Memorial Scholarship ($1,000 – $2,000)Next Scholarship Available in 2019.  The Children of Fallen Workers Memorial Scholarship provides financial assistance to children of fallen Caltrans workers to help meet their post-high school educational goals. Applicants must be the child or step-child of a Caltrans worker killed on the job, who is currently enrolled in college, vocational school, or a senior in high school who is continuing his/her education. The scholarship award must be used to attend a post-secondary school or institution. This could include any: public or private four-year accredited college or university; two-year accredited college; vocational-technical college or a training institution. Scholarships will be awarded in the amounts of $1,000 – $2,000. The number and size of the scholarships awarded each year will be determined by the cash balance in the fund and number of scholarship applications received.  Contact: CTF at sarah_west@transportationfoundation.org for more information.

Caltrans Roberts Memorial Scholarship ($1,500)  Next Scholarship Available in 2019. High school seniors planning to major in civil engineering are eligible to apply. This scholarship is given in memory of Jim Roberts, a nationally-recognized Caltrans Bridge Engineer.  Contact: Christina Ortiz ataskrecruitment@dot.ca.gov for more information.

 Caltrans Sally L. Wyatt Memorial Scholarship ($750 – $1,000) Next Scholarship Available in 2019.  The Sally L. Wyatt Memorial Scholarship is named after the late Sally Wyatt who was a former auditor for Caltrans Audits and Investigations. Scholarships range from $750 – $1,000 for students who are majoring in or plan to pursue a career in accounting/auditing and want to work in the field of transportation.  The Scholarship is open to students at accredited junior college or universities in Sacramento County and surrounding areas (Yuba City, Lincoln, Davis, Roseville, Chico, etc.)  Please download the application for more information and selection criteria. Contact: Lynn Carrier at lynn.carrier@dot.ca.gov for more information.

Open to graduating high school seniors of Mexican origin or Latino students or AB540 students from a low income household, with a minimum 2.5 gpa. Letter of acceptance to a college or university in Northern California you plan to attend must be provided. Davis, Richard C Scholarship 2019  
For high school seniors attending an alternative school (North Point Academy, NU Tech, Silver Springs, etc.) or continuation school. Must be 18 years or younger. This scholarship is designed to recognize the resilience of students who overcome personal obstacles to graduate high school and continue their education or pursue advance training to develop entry level skills leading to gainful employment. Due March 30, 2019

EAA Scholarship Application 2018  
Scholarship covers transportation, lodging, and food. Open to Nevada county residents who are between 14 and 15 years of age. Requires oral interviews for selected finalists. Due February 8, 2018

First U.S. Community Credit Union Scholarship 
This $1,000 scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors with a minimum 3.0 gpa. You must be a First U. S. member in good standing. Due September 3, 2018


Foothill Quilters Guild Scholarship 2017-2018
Open to students who have displayed in interest in furthering their education. This scholarship is a textile based project based award.  Textiles include fabrics, yarn, or other fiber based materials. This fiber arts project may be a class or group project, or one done on your own.  For example, projects might use quilting, sewing, weaving, basketry, or knitting, in their construction and might be a quilt, garment, an art project or something else that fits the criteria.  A requirement for the scholarship recipient will be to present the completed textile related project to the Foothill Quilters Guild at one of their monthly meetings.  Mail complete app to address shown postmarked by April 10, 2018  (requested updated application for 2019)

Model A Ford Club Youth Scholarship 
Seniors who are children/grandchildren, or a youth member, of the Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA) (Gra Neva Model A Club) or Model “A” Restorers Club (MARC). Membership for one year prior to application in either national club is required. Due May 1, 2018


Moose Youth and Drug Awareness Scholarship Program Packet 
This is a program for students to present a program to youth ages 4-9 years old regarding topic like anti-bullying, internet safety, peer pressure, etc. Training through the Moose Lodge on Allison Ranch Road. Check with the Moose Lodge in the fall timeframe if you are interested.  Top national scholarship $12,000

Nevada County Bar Association High School Essay Scholarship Contest 2018-19
Open to all high school students. Due October15, 2018

Nevada County Concert Band Jerry Foote Scholarship Application 2018-19 
This scholarship is open to students who are at least sophomores in high school (and college students up to age 25) who play a band instrument. Must be a resident of Nevada County.  Min 3.0 GPA required.  May be used for assistance with music instruction or for college tuition to study music.  Complete page 3 of the forms.  To satisfy the proof of gpa requirement, include a current transcript.   Due January 2019
 
Open to freshmen through seniors.  Must have attended 5 out of the 6 Speaker Series.  Must have been an exhibitor (still exhibit or livestock) at he 2017 Nevada County Fair.   Due May 18, 2018   
 
Nevada County JJDPC Scholarship:  Open to students under age 24 who are Nevada County residents, currently or previously involved in the Nevada County juvenile justice system and/or on probation with the Nevada County Probation Department.  Must be accepted to or enrolled in a post high school education program including college, vocational program specialized career training, etc.  (if you are not yet accepted or enrolled, you may provide a statement explaining why not).  Due April 30

NMSU Girl Scout Scholarship 2016 -2017 (PDF - 144 KB)

North and North Central District American Assoc. of Family and Consumer Science Scholarship 2019 
Must be a graduating high school senior pursuing career studies in any related Family & Consumer Science field (Consumer Science, Early Child Development (not primary school education), Food Science, Dietetics and Nutrition, Family & Consumer Science Education, Food Service and Hospitality, Fashion Design, Interior Design and Furnishings) at an accredited Community College or Technical, Vocational Institution or State College or University.  Due March 10, 2018


Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival Scholarship 
Must be a graduating senior of Japanese American descent with a minimum 2.5 gpa (on 4.0 scale) and involved in your community.  Two winners will each receive $2,500.  Postmark no later than Saturday, March 14 and send to the Cherry Blossom Festival Scholarship Committee, 2441 Farrol Avenue, Union City, CA 94587-5258.  Due - Must be postmarked by April 1, 2019

P.E.O. Chapter GQ Scholarship Application 2019 (PDF - 50 KB)
Open to Bear River high school female seniors. Must be planning on attending an accredited college in OR out-of-state. Min 2.5 gpa. If the space on the application is not sufficient, you may add additional attachments.  You don't have to know which college you plan on attending at the time of application.  If you don't know, indicate the colleges you have applied to.  If you receive the award, you will need to let them know to which college to send the award.  Normally Due April 1  (for 2019 award, this chapter chose their recipient early in SEPT 2018, more to follow)

Placer Community Theater 2019 Scholarship Application 
This scholarship is available to students graduating in 2019 from schools in Placer and Nevada County, who will pursue a major or minor in acting or technical theater at an accredited institution of higher learning in the fall of 2019. Applicants must demonstrate active involvement in theater arts through participation in school or community theatrical productions either on stage or behind-the-scenes. Due April 1

PHCS Portuguese Historical & Cultural Society Scholarship
Open to high school graduating seniors of Portuguese descent of northern California with a min 3.0 gpa. Must submit 1 letter of recommendation from either a teacher, counselor, principal, pastor, club leader, or employer. Must submit a 300 word minimum essay on any subject touching on the applicant's Portuguese heritage. Applications will be judged on: gpa (20-35 pts), extra-curricular activities (0-15 pts), Portuguese community involvement (0-5 pts), leadership (0-15 pts), and essay (0-30 pts). Due March 1

Region 14 Of The American Iris Society Scholarship 2019 
For high school seniors pursuing a degree/career in horticulture, florticulture, landscaping, nursery production, or a related field. Due April 3

Rotary Instrumental Music Contest App 2018-201
This is for the 2018-2019 school year and is open to 9th-12th graders. The club level competitions will be the first and second week of February and the area level competition will to be the first part of March.  The scholarship coordinator will work with the competitors to place them with a Rotary Club sponsor. Competition is limited to first come first serve. Return signed form to Kimala DeSena ASAP, but no later than January 29, 2019.

Rotary Music Contest Rules and Judging Criteria 2018-2019
While this states 2017 Contest, this is the form and information for this current year's competition.  The club level contests are yet to be determined but anticipate they will be held the first week in February, 2019 and the Area Contest is MARCH 27th, 2019.  Kimala DeSena will coordinate your club sponsorship so you don't need to have that before you submit the application. Contestants will be taken on a first come basis. Please submit the completed form to Kimala DeSena ASAP.


Rotary Speech Contest Rules and Application 2018-2019
This is for the 2018-2019 school year and is open to 9th-12th graders. The club level competition dates will be around the first of March, 2019. The scholarship coordinator will work with the competitors to place them with a club sponsor.  Deadline to submit application to Kimala DeSena is January 19, 2019. There are limited spots for competition, which will be filled on a first come first serve basis.
 
 
Sacramento News & Review College Essay Contest:  Seniors graduating in 2018 may submit one entry of a 650-word essay to collegeessay@newsreview.com with the subject line, “College Essay Contest.” The essay may be submitted as a Word document, PDF attachment or in the body of the email.  First prize is $2,000, second prize is $1,000 and third prize is $500.  The three winning essays will be published in a cover story in SN&R on May 31. The winners and their parents will also be invited to a ceremony to receive their awards.  Due Friday, May 10, 2019 by 5 p.m.

Sacramento State University Alumni Scholarship 2018 
Open to high school seniors who are planning to Sac State (any major). Must have min 3.7 gpa. Applications will be rated on ability to achieve academic success, demonstrated leadership and participation, service to community and school, hardships and obstacles (financial or otherwise)and the quality of the application materials. Due March 1, 2019

SAFE will award $10,000 in scholarships this year to exceptional college-bound seniors from high schools in the greater Sacramento area.  Criteria are:  academic achievement (min. 3.0 GPA), financial need, a personal statement, letters of recommendation, community involvement.  Due March 12, 2018
 
Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Introduction 2018--2019   Here are directions.  Open to graduating high school seniors pursuing a major in the medicine or a medically-related field. Min 3.0 gpa.  Due Jan 31, 2019

VIP Women in Technology Scholarship 2018 
Open to high school female seniors pursuing a degree at a 2 or 4-year college in computer science,  information technology, management information systems, or a related field. Due April 1, 2019


Women in Mining Scholarship 2017-2018 
This is open to seniors (young women OR young men) with a min 3.0 gpa who are pursuing a degree in engineering, geology, mining, or environmental studies. Must be a California resident, but may plan on attending college out of state. Due March 2, 2018
 
Open to graduating high school seniors from Nevada County.  Include a 200 word maximum essay describing your cycling experience, and future plans with the sport in regards to wellness and lifestyle.  Letter of recommendation from coach or adult mentor must accompany the application and placed in a sealed envelope.  Due May 18, 2018
