Automotive Services
The Automotive pathway focuses on basic auto repair from bumper to bumper, and teaches students how to diagnose and repair basic systems including: engine performance, engine repair, automotive maintenance, electrical systems, transmissions, drive lines, brakes, and suspension. Advanced class in automotive technologies offers instruction in all eight A.S.E. (Automotive Service Excellence) areas, introduction to on-board computers and testing, smog control testing procedures, engine overhaul and automotive technologies.Articulation with Universal Technical Institute can result in a reduction of student tuition. Students in their capstone year have the option of dual enrollment with Sierra College/American River College.

Beginning Automotive Services

Designed to familiarize students with the basic systems of contemporary automobiles, helps develop skills and related technical knowledge of automotive services necessary to meet job entry requirements with a strong base for continued education within the industry. Focuses on diagnosis and repair of basic systems including: engine performance, engine repair, auto maintenance, electrical systems, transmissions, drive lines, brakes and suspension. Hands on, career based employment opportunities may include entry-level technician, auto parts and services sales person.

This course is designed to build on the knowledge of the basic systems of a contemporary automobile. The class is designed to help the student develop the skills and related technical knowledge of automotive services necessary to meet job entry requirements with a strong base for growth and continued education within the industry. The course focuses on basic auto repair from bumper to bumper, and teaches students how to diagnose and repair basic systems including engine performance, engine repair, automotive maintenance, electrical systems, transmissions, drivelines, brakes, and suspension. Designed for students that have successfully completed Beginning Automotive Services, this course should be taken by students interested in a hands-on career-based curriculum. The course also serves as a prelude to the advanced two-period classes; Automotive Services and Automotive technology. Employment opportunities may include entry-level technician, auto parts, and service salesperson. Articulation with UTI can result in a reduction in student tuition.

An advanced class in automotive technologies offers instruction in all eight A.S.E. (Automotive Service Excellence) areas, introduction to onboard computers and testing, smog control testing procedures, engine overhaul, and automotive technologies. Internship opportunities may include auto dealerships, automotive repair or body shops, retail parts businesses, machine shops, brake, and front-end shops, motorcycle repair shops, or specialty shops. Employment opportunities may include automotive machinist’s helper, engine specialist, auto technician apprentice, brake and front end specialist, auto body /paint apprentice, collision repair, parts and inside sales, and emission control technician.

UTI Top Tech Challenge – May 2022
Alex Eckerling and Eric Dyer from Nevada Union High School competed at the Universal Technical Institute, Top Tech Challenge in May 2022 and finished in 3rd place, each earning a $5,000 scholarship, if they decide to attend UTI. UTI’s Top Tech Challenge is an excellent opportunity for students interested in automotive technology and transportation careers to show off what they are learning and reward them for their skills and knowledge.
