2016-17 Superintendent's Message

August 3, 2016

This message comes to send greetings to all of our students, faculty and parents of the Nevada Joint Union High School District.  As August begins, we turn our attention to enjoying these last days of summer, the Nevada County Fair and then back-to-school for one and all.  You will be getting more detailed information from your school principal but here are some of the bigger highlights.

  • School starts for students on Wednesday, August 17.  We will be running a minimum day schedule on that day.  The calendar for the entire school year is available on our website.   District/calendar
  • Based upon the medical and educational research about natural teen sleep patterns, most of our students will be starting and ending school an hour later this year.  The new bus schedules are on our website on the transportation page.  Ghidotti will still follow the Sierra College schedule and North Point students will still schedule their individual appointments at school.
  • We are proud of our scratch cooked fresh school meals.  To try to keep pace with the rising cost of food service, we have had to increase our prices by $.25 for breakfast and $.50 for lunch to $2.00 for breakfast and $4.00 per lunch.  If you think you may qualify please watch your enrollment packet and sign up for the National School Lunch Program.  It not only includes the school meals but qualifies your student for reduced rates on college entrance testing, internet in the Comcast service area and generates a higher level of funding for our schools.
  • On June 29, the Board of Trustees took action to place a general obligation bond before our voters for needed repairs and upgrades to our schools.  It is called Measure B and will allow us to complete the projects in our facilities improvement plan and update our schools to prepare students for college and careers. Information is available here.

It is indeed our pleasure and good fortune to serve our community as your high school educators.  With eager anticipation we enter the 2016-17 school year prepared to reach and teach our students as they embark or continue upon their high school adventure.  Happy New School Year!
